ABOUT ITV STUDIOS AUSTRALIA
ITV Studios Australia has a rich 25-year history of television and film production.
Established in 1989 as the independent production company Artist Services, it was purchased and expanded in 2000 by Granada Productions (an ITV company) and renamed ITV Studios Australia in 2013 as part of a global ITV rebrand.
Artist Services was established by Steve Vizard, alongside fellow writer and producer, Andrew Knight. In the early Artist Services days, the company specialised in sketch comedy, co-founding The Comedy Channel with Foxtel in 1990 and producing more than 80 hours of original television each year. Deborah Cox joined the company in the mid 1990s as head of drama. From 1989 to 2002, Artist Services grew to one of the three largest production companies in Australia.
In addition to its television output – winning more than 20 Logies, plus Australian Film Institute and Australian Writers’ Guild awards – Artist Services developed feature films including The Sound of One Hand Clapping (based on Richard Flanagan’s award-winning novel) and Dead Letter Office (starring Miranda Otto and Barry Otto). Consequently, the back catalogue includes a goldmine of retro comedy programming. There are scores of titles and thousands of hours of some of Australia’s favourite television series, including Fast Forward, Full Frontal, Tonight Live, Big Girl’s Blouse and Seachange. These back catalogue programs feature some of our most talented comedians, including Shaun Micallef, Merrick and Rosso, Magda Szubanski, Eric Bana, Lawrence Mooney, Paul Fenech, Jimeoin, Bob Downe, Brian Nankervis and Kitty Flanagan.
From 2000, Granada Productions produced a range of hit formats, including six seasons of Australia’s Next Top Model (FOX8), seven seasons of Dancing with the Stars (Seven), four seasons of Come Dine With Me Australia (The LifeStyle Channel) and Merrick and Rosso Unplanned (Nine). It also created original formats such as Talkin’ ‘bout your Generation (Ten), The Trophy Room (ABC) and Please Marry My Boy (Seven). Working with Seed Productions, it co-produced three seasons of the “Aussie Goes” series featuring Gus Worland (FOX8).
In 2013 and 2014, ITV Studios Australia developed and produced two seasons of the original format Paddock to Plate (The LifeStyle Channel), featuring chef and restaurateur Matt Moran.
With production company Giant Baby, ITV Studios has co-produced Shaun Micallef’s Mad As Hell (ABC) since 2012, with a new season in 2015. Also in 2015 ITV Studios Australia has produced the first Australian version of the huge international hit format I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! and the blue chip factual series The First ANZACS - both for Network Ten.
